Natalie has a problem... some one is spread rumours about her which could get her into a spot of bother with Sally Spiteful. What should she do?
Children involved - Owen Henderson, Harriet Texeira, Dylan Hannon, Esther Ogunbiyi, Mohamed Ahmed, Nicola Sinclair, Courtney Howard, Sophie Nind, Nikita King.
Teacher Notes
Discuss with the children how Natalie felt at different points of the story:
a) When Sally threatened to 'pound her'.
b) When she was talking to Callum in class.
c) When the teacher spoke with Sally.
Discuss how rumours spread. Does it always happen deliberately? Get the children to produce a mini drama where a rumour spreads by accident and then one where it is started deliberately. Can the rest of the class work out which is which?

Discuss with the children the different changes they have experienced recently and imagine how the children in the podcast felt.
Discuss how they as individuals and as a class could help a child:

• New to the school
Get the children to make a drama showing examples of how they could make somebody new feel welcome.

Meet Annie Excuse – she’s full of excuses, are you?
Children involved – Luke, Gary Letitia, Abbie, Stewart, Jessie, Kyrie, Beswick
Teacher Notes...
Get the children to think and write down the different excuses they make for not doing things at home.
Get the children to discuss and write down excuses for not doing things at school. Mind map these on the board.
Get the children in pairs to think of the responses for each of the excuses listed on the board and produce a paired role play with one person making the excuse and the other responding to them.
Discuss the reasons people make excuses, why excuses they are a form of lying to other people and how the person is actually lying to themselves.
What would be the consequences of always making excuses for not doing things?

Discuss why people break rules and reinforce the consequences of breaking them. Think of the different rules that may be broken in school and discuss their consequences.
Write a pros and cons list for breaking rules.
In pairs get each child to tell their friend they are going to break a rule. The partner has to try to convince them not to do it.
Discuss how it feels when trying to convince someone not to break a rule. In the podcast Natalie lies to Mrs Harsh in order to help Luke. Was she right to lie? Discuss this as a class.

Play a variety of team games and discuss how a team that works together and encourages each other will be the winning team.
Discuss why there is no ‘I’ in team.
Get the children to think of ways they can encourage the whole class as they work as a team each day.
Get the children to imagine they are the two different groups in the podcast. Get the children to act out the different types of behaviour you would see
• in a group that are working together
• in a group where they are not working together
Discuss how people felt when acting in each of the groups. How can they use this to help them in the future?
